Summer greeting from the management team |
Dear Bio4Fuel partners,
We now head into the last summer of Bio4Fuels operations with our main priority focusing on highlighting the role of sustainable drop-in fuels for key parts of the transport sector. In this final phase, we have prioritized organising and coordinating webinars, conferences and workshops on aspects of the value chain where there is greatest uncertainty or lack of knowledge, in particular in relation to access to renewable feedstocks for large scale production.
We are also continuing to take a strategic role as part of the extensive international network that has been established by Bio4Fuels, including the IEA Bioenergy and links to Brazil through the November Conference.
In the current period we are now in, where Climate action has lost its place as a primary issue for all of us, arenas such as Bio4Fuels are of even greater importance in maintaining momentum in terms of R&D and Innovation.
On behalf of the Bio4Fuels management, we wish you all a great summer!

SFI SusFuels – Sustainable fuels production for Aviation and Marine transport
An application for a new Centre for Research Based innovation was successfully delivered within the deadline.
The focus is towards the hard to electrify aviation and marine sectors, looking to address the barriers for scale up.
Feedback from the application will be received in December.

The study “Effects of Energy Research” evaluated the research activities within hydroelectrical, wind, solar and bioenergy production technologies. It also looked at energy use in buildings, energy efficiency in industry, zero emissions and energy systems, which were thematic areas of the eight FMEs that finalized by the end of 2024.
In total 60 research cases were reviewed, and their impact on seven environmental and socio-economical areas such as reduction on climate gasses and negative environmental impacts where presented.
FME Bio4fuels contributed with 5 cases: Bioresource access, biogas value-chain, biofuels from waste, process for biooil production, and hydrothermal liquefaction.
Happily, and as expected, the main conclusion of the report indicates that the realised potential and positive socio-economic effects of energy research within these FMEs has by large higher returns than investment, where the most valuable impacts were in increased renewable energy production, energy efficiency, and reduced climate gasses.
