Wishing everyone a Happy Holiday 💚
Dear Bio4Fuels supporters

As we approach the Christmas holiday period, we can reflect over all we have achieved this year and look forward to new opportunities next year. With respect to Bio4Fuels, we are now wrapping up the formal research activities and making plans for the final reporting during next year. In the light of the message from the commission’s assessment of biofuels as having “…. a vital role to play in helping reduce emissions in the transport sector as part of the Fit-for-55 and the climate neutrality goals, while contributing to increasing the EU's industrial competitiveness, gross domestic product, and net employment”, we must aim to ensure that our results achieve the greatest impact.

Looking forward to next year, the hot-off-the-press news that our initiative towards a new SusFuels SFI Centre has been selected to submit a full application, give us the chance to take forward the ambitions of Bio4Fuels in a focussed effort.

With this in mind, we thank everyone active in or associated with the Bio4Fuels

and wish you God Jul.

Annual Report 2024

It is soon time for the annual report to The Research Council of Norway. The deadline for the report is 7 January.

Last week an e-mail was sent out to partners with information about the reporting. Please remember that in-kind is not just when you are in contact with anyone at Bio4Fuels, but it is all activities that can be related to the project.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with Senior Advisor Ann-Solveig Hofseth at ann-solveig.hofseth@nmbu.no.
Congratulations,
Dr. Encinas!

We congratulate Dr. Oscar Luis Ivañez Encinas on his recent doctorate from NTNU funded by Bio4Fuels.

He defended his thesis 10 December: Biomass to liquids via Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. Electronic effects on cobalt-based catalysts.

Oscar Luis Ivañez Encinas has been a PhD candidate in Bio4Fuels WP4.2 Gasification Processes, under the supervision of Prof Edd Blekkan, NTNU.
Congratulations,
Dr. Cazzolaro!

We congratulate Dr. Martina Cazzolaro on her recent doctorate from NTNU funded by Bio4Fuels.

She defended her thesis 16 December: Supported Cu catalysts for selective carbonyl hydrogenation - hydroxyacetone to 1,2-propanediol

Martina Cazzolaro has been a PhD candidate in Bio4Fuels WP2.3 Liquefaction Processes - Upgrading and Co-processing, under the supervision of Prof De Chen and Associate Prof Jia Yang, NTNU.
Case studies to the Norwegian Environment Agency

Through the project “Effekter av Energiforskning”, the Norwegian Ministry of Energy wants to get a complete overview of the research work within the nine FMEs (Centres for Environment-friendly Energy Research) as well as projects from CLIMIT and EnergiX programs in the period 2017-2024. Each of the FMEs must present case studies of the most central sub-projects.

Bio4fuels will document the effects of R&D within environmentally friendly energy with focus on increased production of renewable energy, energy efficiency, reduced climate emissions, business potential and more. Important topics are resource access, as well as technologies such as Biogas, Hydrothermal Liquification and Pyrolysis. The project is coordinated by Menon Economics.

Mapping of domestically available sustainable biomass for energy purposes

SINTEF, NMBU and Stakeholder AS have been awarded a project by Enova to map out sustainable biomass for energy. This project is key for Norway's bioenergy sector and our ambitions in aviation and marine biofuel production.
