From Bio4Fuels Management
After another hectic first half of the year, we all now have the chance to take a well-deserved pause to refresh our reserves in our summer vacation.
The first half of 2024 has been both fruitful in terms of achievements and sobering in terms of where we are with respect to addressing the challenges we face today. |

With respect to achievement, we look to the Bio4Fuels Days meeting in Helsinki. Its success was in particular the consolidation of the many activities across the centre â showing in particular the potential for integrated biofuels production in Norway. It was also to see the efforts of the Stakeholders towards trying to deploy technology for producing and using future biofuels value chains. We are also able to point to the concrete outputs from Bio4Fuels in terms of education, dissemination and internationalisation.
However, despite the strong commitments of everyone in Bio4Fuels, it is sobering to still face the fact that we have a framework around us that does not appear to be fully aligned with the urgency of the climate mitigation challenges, in particular the aviation and marine transport. This is a task for us all after summer, in particular the management in the final period of the Centre, will be focussing on greater public engagement and visibility of the dilemmas.
As always, the management acknowledges all the efforts of Bio4Fuels partners and in particular the energy and commitment of the young researchers.
We wish you all a great summer break.

In-kind reporting
Summer 2024 is already here, and while we enjoy the long, bright days, it's important to remember that Christmas is approaching fast. With the festive season in mind, we would like to remind you of the importance of in-kind reporting.

In-kind contributions are an essential part of our collaboration and apply to all types of activity that relate to our focus areas. It is important to note that this does not only apply when you are in direct contact with Bio4Fuels, but also for all activities that contribute to our common goal, whether it is research, development or other professional initiatives.
We encourage you to document and report all such contributions carefully. This ensures that we have a complete picture of the efforts being made.

SP3 Biochemical Processes
Congratulations, doctor!
Camilla Fløien Angeltveit successfully defended her PhD 24 May. Angeltveit has been working on her academic thesis
âInterplay between LPMOs and cellulases during enzymatic degradation of cellulose - effects of time, lignin, light and substrate concentrationâ |

as a part of Bio4Fuels work package 3.2 Enzymatic Saccharification with her supervisor Svein Jarle Horn at NMBU.
She finished her time at NMBU with an exciting new publication
"Light Exposure of Lignin Affects the Saccharification Efficiency of LPMO-Containing Cellulolytic Enzyme Cocktails" where the authors literally shed new light on enzymatic saccharification of lignocellulosic biomass.
Dr. Angeltveit will start a new role at the Norwegian Environment Agency July 2024. |
